DURANGO, Colo. (AP) – Authorities say a college student from Utah has been shot to death in the San Juan National Forest in southwest Colorado and a suspect has been arrested.
La Plata County sheriff’s deputies said Sunday they found the body of 26-year-old David Alan Jones at a campsite about 20 miles north of Durango at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Deputies went to the site after a 911 caller reported a shooting.
Sheriff’s spokesman Dan Bender said Sunday that Jones was from Woods Cross, Utah, and attended Fort Lewis College in Durango.
Deputies arrested 37-year-old Brenden Dow Ashburn of Durango on suspicion of first-degree murder. He’s being held in without bail.
Bender tells The Denver Post (http://tinyurl.com/8saszuf) that Jones and the suspect were not camping together and didn’t know each other.
