DENVER (CBS4) – Professional hockey is coming back to the Denver Coliseum for the first time since 1989.
The brand new Central Hockey League’s Denver Cutthroats will play their home opener Oct. 19. The opponent is still to be determined.
The match will open the CHL’s 2012-2013 season.
Former University of Denver star Aaron Mackenzie was signed as first player in the Cutthroats’ franchise history. Mackenzie also spent some time playing for the Colorado Avalanche.
The team is holding open tryouts on Friday at 9 a.m. at Edge Ice Arena in Littleton. Fans are welcome to attend.
The team is also looking for public address announcer and in-game host for the upcoming season. Visit the Denver Cutthroats website for more information.
