Video Released Of Prisoner's Dramatic Escape From Hospital

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - A prisoner's dramatic escape from a Greeley hospital was caught on video.

Raul Alaniz got out of his handcuffs and escaped from the emergency room of the Northern Colorado Medical Center on July 13.

Surveillance video shows Alaniz running away in an orange jumpsuit with his legs still in shackles. He was waiving a gun that he stole from a deputy who was guarding him.

At one point Alaniz runs right by a baby in a stroller and a woman in a wheelchair. He then runs out the door and tries to steal a car, but ends up running away.

Alaniz went into a home and refused to come out. After a standoff he eventually took his own life.

The sheriff's office says the two deputies involved will be disciplined for violating procedure. As a result of the escape hospital bathroom breaks will no longer be allowed. New handcuffs are being ordered that are designed to go through a CAT scan. They are also working on getting new holsters for deputies.
