DENVER (CBS4) - Police have released the identity of a suspect they shot and killed on Tuesday.

According to police, the coroner was still performing an autopsy on Kevin Ryberg, 22, on Wednesday. Ryberg was shot after officers say he attacked police inside a patrol car.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon at 39th and Monaco. The man was first arrested at the Niagra House Motel on East Colfax on warrants for drugs and weapons charges.

Officers were on their way to the station when police say the suspect slipped out of his handcuffs and attacked them. Detectives say the suspect reached for an officer's weapon, and that's why he was shot.

The case will now be investigated by the department, the Denver District Attorney's Office and the Office of the Independent Monitor.
