Denver Police Shoot, Kill Suspect During Alleged Struggle

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police are investigating after a suspect was shot and killed Tuesday morning.

Raquel Lopez with Denver police said officers responded to the Niagara House Motel located at 6701 East Colfax Avenue on a report of a party with a gun.

"Upon arrival the officers arrested the party on a warrant, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a weapon," Lopez said in a statement.

Lopez said while being transported to the District 2 Station the suspect was able to get out of the handcuffs and attacked the officer when the car was near 39th and Monaco Parkway. A police officer in a patrol car that was following noticed the suspect and the officer in a struggle.

"The second officer that was following noticed that the first officer was swerving and the vehicles did come to a stop at that time and the suspect was known to have been attacking the officer who was transporting him," Lopez told CBS4.

Both cars pulled over and the suspect was shot. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
