Mudslides Close Part Of US 24 Near Manitou Springs
MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Heavy rain has been falling in an area burned by the Waldo Canyon fire near Colorado Springs, leading to mudslides that have closed part of U.S. 24 near Manitou Springs.
A Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman tells The Gazette the mud was as deep as 5 feet on one part of the highway Monday.
There was also hail in the Colorado Springs area from the storm.
Further west, mudslides closed Colorado Highway 133 about six miles south of Carbondale for a few hours in the afternoon.
