Aurora Shooting Victim's Hospital Bill Is $2M

AURORA, Colo. (CBS Denver) -- The new father who was shot in the eye at the Aurora movie massacre is going to be receiving a crushing hospital bill in the tune of $2 million dollars.

Caleb Medley was attending a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" when police say James Holmes opened fire into the crowd, killing 12 people and injuring 58 others.

The procedures Medley has received are expensive. He has undergone several surgeries and has been in an induced coma. His wife, Katie, who also attended the tragic screening, gave birth to their child in the same hospital. The couple does not have health insurance.

Caleb works at a local Target, and is an aspiring stand-up comedian.

Medley's friends, however, are trying get him help to cover his massive medical debt. Medley's close friend Michael West set up a website to collect donations. He also set up a Facebook page supporting Medley.

"We talked to him because we know he can hear us," West told CBS News. "We tell him that he needs to get better because he needs to be a dad."

Medley is currently in the ICU at the University of Colorado Hospital. CBS Denver has reached out to the hospital for comment.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated that Caleb works at a different store.
