2 People Killed In Accident On I-70 East Of Limon
LIMON, Colo. (CBS4)– Two people were killed when they were struck by a semi while they were changing a tire on the side of Interstate 70 Saturday morning.
The accident happened at about 6:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 363 just east of Limon.
The two who were killed were changing a tire on the shoulder when they were struck by the semi. It is unknown if they were on the driver or passenger side of the vehicle which is a 2007 Pontiac Vibe with Texas license plates.
Killed in the crash were Shun Jones, 48, of Carrollton, Texas, and Amanda Omo-Iyamu, 38, of Balch Springs, Texas.
Colorado State Patrol said a teenage boy was inside the vehicle when the two were struck. That person was not injured.
The semi was hauling a horse trailer with livestock. The driver, Michel Martin, 37 of Louisiana, pulled over about one half mile from the accident and is cooperating with authorities in the investigation. He was not injured. Charges are pending against Martin.
“My heart goes out to him and his family too,” truck driver Bruce Ellis said. “It’s devastating. There’s a good chance that he won’t be able to drive again because of his own insides.”
The right lane of westbound I-70 had to be closed for the investigation.
