I-25 To Be Shut Down Saturday, Sunday

Written by Traffic Specialist Joel Hillan

The Colorado Department of Transportation is shutting down Interstate 25 Saturday and Sunday night for work on the 15th Street bridge.

The closure will affect all lanes of travel, both directions on I-25 from I-70 to Speer.

CDOT plans to close I-25 from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, then again Sunday night at 11 p.m. to 5:30 Monday morning.  In addition, 15th Street over I-25 will be closed from 11 p.m. Sunday until 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

Bob Wilson with CDOT says the project will be to install the girders for the north side of the new 15th Street bridge.  When the construction is complete, they will divert traffic on that bridge and demolish the south portion.

This will replace the 15th Street bridge over I-25 to accommodate auxiliary lanes on I-25, which allows for wider sidewalks on 15th Street.

The detour will be I-70 to Federal to Speer to I-25.

Even though they plan to have the Interstate back open at 9am, don't be surprised if it takes longer.   The last CDOT bridge project in Aurora at Yale and I-225 took them much longer, closing I-225 well into the morning hours--causing big delays.
