Weld County Takes Steps To Protect Immigrants From Crimes

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - The Weld County District Attorney wants to fight crime by protecting the growing immigrant community.

The office launched a campaign this week to teach that community how it important it is to report any and all crimes to law enforcement.

DA Ken Buck said the problem is often that immigrants worry they'll be the ones in trouble if they report crimes.

"There are many different cultural barriers in reporting crime," Buck said. "Many people in their home country are afraid of the police and they come to this country. They don't have confidence that someone is going to take them seriously or take their side."

Buck specifically hopes the program can help immigrants avoid becoming victims of scams.
