JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The man who admitted to impersonating a firefighter at the High Park Fire burning west of Fort Collins is in more trouble.
Michael Maher has been charged with theft and criminal impersonation in connection with the Lower North Fork Fire in Jefferson County.
That fire was accidentally started during a controlled burn in March.
The Jefferson County Sheriff earlier indicated Maher was being investigated for posing as a firefighter and taking equipment that was later reported missing.
Maher’s attorney issued a statement reading that Maher is not accused of looting and is remorseful and humiliated.
Maher faces four counts in Larimer County, including criminal impersonation and theft. He was arrested after national guardsmen became suspicious of his behavior at the High Park Fire.
