Colorado Springs Adopts Zero Tolerance Policy For Fireworks

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- The City of Colorado Springs has adopted a Zero Tolerance policy toward fireworks.

All fireworks within Colorado Springs are illegal within the exception of paper caps for toy guns and other paper cap fireworks containing no more than 1/2500 grain of explosive per cap.

Due to the extreme fire hazard the city has adopted a Zero Tolerance policy concerning the possession and/or use of fireworks.

That means if officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department apprehend any individual in possession of/or using fireworks within the city limits, they will be issued a summons to appear in court.

A conviction for such a violation may carry a fine of up to $500 and/or 90 days in jail. If property damage or injury occurs with such a violation the suspect may be charged with arson.

The police department will deploy extra patrols to actively look for and cite fireworks violations.

The Waldo Canyon Fire in the Colorado Springs has grown to 15,324 acres and destroyed an undetermined number of homes.
