Furrrrday: Take Your Dog to Work Day!

View Comments

Today is “Take Your Dog to Work Day”.  Our furry friends always wonder where we go all day.  Here’s your chance to teach them how to help you file paperwork!

This is nothing new.  According to Pet Sitters International, “Take Your Dog to Work Day” debuted back in 1999.  This year, thousands of pet owners are expected to extend an invitation to the office - and a leash – to their dogs.

In 2005, more than 37,000 people downloaded information about the event.

But wait, this is better: A 2005 poll by the American Animal Hospital Association found that 33 percent of owners call home during the day so their pets can hear their voice.

The goal of Take Your Dog To Work is to “celebrate the great companions dogs make and to promote pet adoptions from shelters, humane societies and rescue groups.”

Check the rules at work before you show up with Fido in tow.  Pet Sitters International advises that “employers… ensure that their general liability policy covers the event and specific guidelines should be in place for employees who plan to bring dogs.”

If your dog is unfriendly — ever — to other pets or people, leave them at home. Celebrate by bringing in a photo.
