Man Accused Of Impersonating Firefighter Found With Stolen Property

LAPORTE, Colo. (CBS4) - A Denver man was arrested behind the lines of the High Park Fire early Sunday morning after he allegedly had phony firefighter credentials.

Michael Maher, 30, is facing charges of obstructing fire crews, impersonating fire crews, theft and attempting to influence a public servant.

Deputies say Maher was driving a truck with stolen government license plates. Stolen property and a firearm were found inside the truck.

"The vehicle was spotted in Laporte and deputies were able to locate Mr. Maher in a local bar," John Shultz with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "The government license plate turned out to be stolen from the Glenwood Springs area."

"We don't know where he got in and how he got in," Sheriff Justin Smith said.

Maher is currently being held at the Larimer County Jail.
