Fire Crews Gaining Ground In Sunrise Mine Fire
PARADOX, Colo. (CBS4)- Fire crews are gaining ground on a large wildfire burning near the Colorado-Utah border.
The Sunrise Mine Fire is burning near Paradox. It's 70 percent contained and has burned 6,130 acres, that's nine-square miles.
Federal fire officials say crews made progress holding and building new containment lines Wednesday, even as a cold front brought shifting winds at midday.
More than 600 firefighters and six helicopters are fighting the fire.
There are 10 residences and 15 outbuildings threatened. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
An area of closure is in effect for Carpenter Ridge in Colorado and Utah, Sinbad Ridge in Colorado and Utah, Buckeye Basin to include Buckeye Campground and all Manti-La Salle National Forest Lands in Colorado north of Willow Basin Creek/Buckeye Creek.
