Man Missing After Canoe Accident In Southern Colorado
CRESTONE, Colo. (AP) - Sheriff's officials have called off the search for a Colorado man who is presumed dead after a canoe accident on a lake in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Sheriff's officials say Jesse Peterson and Natalie Brechtel were canoeing on Willow Lake when the boat overturned Friday amid high winds. Brechtel was able to swim about 15 feet to shore and was treated for hypothermia.
Colorado Outward Bound School staff who happened to be training in the area helped look for Peterson, as did Saguache County Search and Rescue. Sheriff's officials said Tuesday the search was called off after authorities spoke with Peterson's family.
Outward Bound says Brechtel is from Santa Barbara, Calif., and Peterson is from Colorado.
