Arvada Police Warn Residents After String Of Burglaries

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Arvada are telling homeowners to lock their doors and windows at night after a string of burglaries.

The burglaries happened between 3 and 8 a.m. Sunday on the 13800 block of West 64th Avenue.

The suspects got in through back doors that were unlocked. All the victims were home at the time but were asleep.

The thieves took items like wallets, purses, cash and anything that was easy to grab.

"They went in, grabbed whatever they could and took those items out of the home. In some cases some of that stuff was strewn through the neighborhood and many didn't realize that until they got up and saw some of their items," said Arvada Police Department Sgt. Mark Nazaryk.

One home was spared thanks to a home alarm that scared off an intruder.

"They heard about other houses in the neighborhood that were broken into and figured that that trip on their alarm was actually a warning that someone was trying to get into their house on the backside," said one neighbor.

Investigators believe all the burglaries are related but do not have any suspect descriptions.
