Man Fatally Shot While Camping In Boulder County
ALLENSPARK, Colo. (AP) — A man has been shot and killed while camping in Boulder County, and investigators say it appears to be accidental.
Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Oehlkers (OHL-kurs) says the shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Monday at a campground in the Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest near Allenspark.
The site is about 20 miles northwest of Boulder.
Oehlkers declined to say whether the wound was self-inflicted or to identify the type of gun.
No one has been arrested and no one else was hurt.
The victim was 24 and lived in Thornton. His name hasn't been released. Oehlkers says the man was shot in the face.
Oehlkers says more than a dozen people were in the victim's group. Some were drinking but Oehlkers didn't know if the victim was.
Investigators are interviewing other campers.
