Loveland Police Officer Accused Of Child Porn Possession

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4)- A warrant for a Loveland Police Officer was issued on Friday. He's accused of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of unlawful sexual contact- peeping.

Officer Rodney Bretches surrendered himself to authorities at about 1:30 p.m. and was released on $10,000 bond. Bretches has been with the Loveland Police Department since 1985.

The charges stem from two separate incidents.

Bretches is accused of having at least 20 child pornography photos and/or videos. The other charge stems from a peeping tom accusation from an adult woman.

Those charges come as a shock to those Bretches has worked with.

"We have to treat it just like any other case," said Larimer County District Attorney Larry Abrahamson. "Obviously when you know the individual, that's sometimes difficult but something that you learn to do in this job and that's to be as objective as you possibly can."

The investigation began 3-4 days ago with the Loveland Police Department.

Bretches is on paid administrative leave. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 1.

If convicted, Bretches could face up to six years behind bars for the sexual exploitation of a child charge and up to 24 months behind bars for that peeping tom incident.
