New Film Incentives Could Spark More Movie Production In Colorado

DENVER (CBS4)- Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a bill into law on Friday that he hopes will lure more filmmakers to Colorado.

He signed the Film Production Activities in Colorado Act into law at High Noon Entertainment in Aurora. It's the first of its kind in the country.

The new law offers a number of incentives to businesses that shoot movies, TV shows, video games and commercials in Colorado.

It also creates a loan guarantee program for production activities and increases the existing film incentive to a 10 percent rebate for production costs to 20 percent.

"This is going to help our local companies build infrastructure to be able to attract more movies here. It's going to stimulate not just film and creative arts but it's going to stimulate our entire economy," said Hickenlooper.

More than 400 films have been filmed in Colorado but film incentive programs in other states have lured movie production to other regions.
