WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (AP) – Police say a reality show appearance has led to the arrest of a Colorado man accused of stealing an antique gun from a private collection in New Mexico.
Police in the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge say the Colt Dragoon black powder revolver dates back to the 1800s and is valued at $20,000.
Sixty-four-year-old Wylie Gene Newton of Erie, Colo., is accused of trying to sell it on the show “American Guns,” which features a gun shop in Wheat Ridge. A viewer saw the episode, which aired in December, and alerted authorities.
Wheat Ridge police arrested Newton last week after he met with undercover detectives who offered to buy the gun. He is jailed pending extradition proceedings.
A message left at a phone number listed for Newton wasn’t returned Monday.
