Speed & Alcohol Believed A Factor In Serious Crash On I-225

DENVER (CBS4) - State troopers believe excess speed and alcohol were involved in a crash that kept Interstate 225 closed for four hours early Saturday morning.

Troopers say the single vehicle crash happened at about 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-225 near the Denver Tech Center exit.

Investigators say the Nissan Maxima's driver lost control and struck the concrete barrier and rolled. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seat belts. Both were rushed to Aurora South with serious injuries.

That crash happened near a big construction project that will widen I-225. Both directions and all lanes of the interstate will be closed Saturday from 8 p.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday between Parker Road and Iliff. Major delays are expected and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
