BLM Seeks Dismissal Of Lawsuit Over Christo Plan

DENVER (AP) -- The Bureau of Land Management is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by citizens who oppose the artist Christo's latest project.

The group Rags Over the Arkansas River, or ROAR, is challenging the BLM's decision to grant Christo's team a permit to suspend huge fabric panels over the Arkansas River in Colorado. Christo's team has said the Over the River project likely wouldn't be displayed until August 2015. The project still needs permits from Chaffee County and the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The BLM last month filed a motion saying a judge should dismiss, or at least stay, ROAR's lawsuit because the Department of the Interior Board of Land Appeals is already considering an appeal.

ROAR is preparing to file a response motion.
