DENVER (CBS4)- Hundreds of people gathered to say goodbye to a woman who was shot and killed outside the Destiny Christian Center last month.
Josephine Straham Echols, 67, was remembered at The Potter’s House of Denver, about two miles north of the Aurora church where she died.
Police say Kiarron Parker, 29, of Denver sped into the parking lot and crashed into a car, then began firing a gun when Echols and other church members came out to help. Echols nephew, Antonio Milow, an off-duty Denver police officer who was attending a church service, shot and killed Parker.
The senior pastor said it’s likely that more people would have been killed if Echols had not rushed out to help Parker.
Family members said Echols was a natural caretaker and very courageous. She was a nurse originally from Flint, Mich. Echols is survived by two adult children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
