Car Tumbles Into Poudre River, Killing 1

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A vehicle crashed into the Poudre River Tuesday morning, killing one person and injuring another.

The incident happened sometime between midnight and 5 a.m. on Highway 14 not far from Ted's Place. A passerby noticed the car in the river around 5:50 a.m. It wasn't clear why the vehicle hurtled into the river, according to the Poudre Fire Authority.

Two men from Virginia were in the vehicle. A 36-year-old man died at the scene. His body was found in the river about 100 feet away from where the car ended up. The other man, 40, survived and was taken by a helicopter to the Medical Center of the Rockies and their condition wasn't immediately available. Trooper said the man was awake and talking with them.

Officers with the Colorado State Patrol were investigating the incident. The highway was closed for about four hours after the accident.

Copter4 flew over the scene after 7 a.m. and captured images of a swift water rescue team at the scene.

The names of the victims aren't being released until family can be notified.
