Rockies Guthrie Injured In Bicycle Accident

Denver (CBS4) -- Rockies pitcher Jeremy Guthrie has landed on the disabled list after landing on his shoulder in a bicycle accident.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy broke the news during his postgame news conference Friday night.

According to the skipper, Guthrie was riding his bicycle Friday when the chain broke. The right handed pitcher fell from the bike and landed on his throwing shoulder.  According to Tracy, an MRI did not reveal any structural damage, but Guthrie did suffer a sprain.

Guthrie frequently rides his bike in the downtown area.  The accident happened on a path along the South Platte River near Coors Field.

In a postgame interview, Guthrie said the accident happened so quickly that he didn't have time to react or prevent falling on his throwing shoulder.

He will spend 15-days on the disabled list.

Guillermo Moscoso has been called up to take Guthrie's scheduled start on Saturday against the New York Mets.
