Father Accused Of Locking Children Inside Burning Home Has Died
NORTHGLENN, Colo. (CBS4)– A father accused of locking himself and his two children inside their burning home has died.
William Johnson died from injuries he suffered in the February 23 fire.
Prosecutors filed 11 charges against Johnson including attempted murder and child abuse.
Police say Johnson’s wife called them to do a welfare check on her children.
Investigators say he was cooperative and the children seemed fine. A short time later he allegedly set the house on fire. Cody and Kailyn were seriously injured in the blaze.
Kaitlyn suffered burns over 50 percent of her upper body and has undergone multiple surgeries. She remains hospitalized.
Cody, 18-months old, has been released.
Police say Johnson is suspected of severely beating his estranged wife before the fire. She had filed for divorce from Johnson in January.
