Ft. Carson Honors Fallen Soldier With Memorial Service

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)– Soldiers at Fort Carson will gather for a memorial service Wednesday morning to honor one of their own.

Staff Sergeant David Nowaczyk was killed April 15 while serving in Afghanistan. He’s originally from Dyer, Indiana.

Nowaczyk, 32, joined the Army in 2005 and earned several medals including two Bronze Stars.

Nowaczyk was an infantryman assigned to Fort Carson’s 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

The memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Soldier’s Memorial Chapel at Fort Carson.

His most recent deployment began March 3. He had previously been deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 and 2009.
