Volunteers At Columbian Elementary Transform Overgrown Garden

DENVER (CBS4) - Volunteers at Columbian Elementary transformed an overgrown garden into a functional one on Sunday.

A nonprofit group called UrbiCulture Community Farms spearheaded the event. The organization says their goal is to teach children how to garden and also the advantages of eating healthy.

"This was one little idea and it has sparked a movement with working the earth," Candice Orlando with UrbiCulture Community Farms said.

Students from North High School will maintain the garden. The produce will be served in the elementary school cafeteria. Any extra food will be donated to women's shelters.
