Hickenlooper Signs Bill That Changes How Juveniles Are Charged As Adults
DENVER (CBS4) - Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a law that will change how Colorado juveniles can be charged as adults.
Prosecutors were given the authority to charge children as adults after the infamous "Summer of Violence" in 1993 in Denver. The new law gives that authority to judges in many cases.
Supporters say too many children were being charged as adults for mid-range felonies. Opponents say the change takes away too much power from prosecutors.
