DENVER (CBS4) – After years of studies, reports and work by lawmakers, Metro State College of Denver is now a university.
On Wednesday the school handed out t-shirts to students with its new name — Metro State University.
Administrators say the school was often confused as a two-year institution because of the “college” name. Gov. John Hickenlooper says the name-change bill he signed will end that misconception.
“It is a great way to honor what Metro State has become. It is a remarkable asset, not just to Denver, but to the entire state of Colorado,” Hickenlooper said.
The governor also signed another bill making it easier for students who transfer to get an associate’s degree in two years at community colleges.
