Colorado Republicans Start Choosing National Delegates

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) - Republicans seem to have settled on a presidential candidate, but Colorado Republicans are just starting to choose individual delegates to the party's presidential nominating convention.

Republicans in Colorado's 7th Congressional District are meeting in Golden Thursday evening to choose three delegates for the Republican convention in Tampa, Fla. They'll also give a formal nominating nod to congressional candidate Joe Coors Jr., who is challenging Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter.

The rest of Colorado's congressional districts meet on Friday. Then the full party meets in Denver Saturday to choose 12 statewide delegates.

Candidates who want to be convention delegates can choose to back a certain candidate, or they can run as an unpledged delegate. Rick Santorum won precinct caucuses in February, but he said Tuesday he is suspending his campaign.
