About 70 Fort Carson Soldiers Return From Afghanistan

FORT CARSON, Colo. (CBS4) - About 70 Fort Carson soldiers are spending the weekend with their families for the first time in nearly a year.

A homecoming ceremony was held Friday night for members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team. They've just returned from Afghanistan.

The soldiers helped train Afghan troops and served as mentors at the National Police Training Center.

"It was about a 10-month deployment and all of the soldiers did a wonderful job. We had great successes out there. So we are happy to be back with our families," Sgt. Major Yolanda Tate with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team said.

Not everyone made it home. Six of the brigade's soldiers were killed during deployment.
