New Technology Could Help Keep Overseas Soldiers Safer

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (CBS4) - The DoubleTree Hotel in Greenwood Village was the site of a sneak peek Tuesday for some new technology that could keep American soldiers safer overseas.

Kaonetics Technologies says they have created a device that disables improvised explosive devices.

IEDs are the No. 1 cause for death and injury to American troops.

The device can also see inside the trunk of cars, cargo containers and railroad cars.

The demonstration showed how a particle beam can disable electronics by interrupting the flow of electricty.

The technology will be used for commerical, military purposes and also homeland security.

The company says it has successfully deactivated roadside bombs in Iraq during testing phases.
