Colorado Springs Unit Gets $78M Defense Contract

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A Lockheed Martin unit in Colorado Springs has been awarded a contract worth up to $78.2 million for work on a missile warning system.

Lockheed Martin said Monday the initial deal is for $21.5 million but the amount could reach $78.2 million over five years.

The work is for the Shared Early Warning System, designed to alert the U.S. and its allies to missile launches. The work will be done by Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services in Colorado Springs.

The company says about 2,000 people work at the Colorado Springs site, and about 30 work on the Shared Early Warning System contract.
