Hikers Detained By Iran Tell Their Story In Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - The three Americans detained in Iran for hiking over the Iraq-Iran border told their story in Denver on Saturday.

Shane Bauer, Sarah Shourd and Josh Fattal were detained in 2009 after hiking over the border into Iran. They were accused of spying and illegally entering the country.

Shourd was released a little more than a year later, but the men were detained for more than two years. They say they have an important message about what they learned during their time in Iran.

"What's happening to us is no justification for more tension in the region. It's important for us that … there is no war … that there's no war there and it's not supported by America," Fattal said.

The hikers spoke at Amnesty International USA's annual meeting in Denver. The three said the organization advocated for them while they were detained.
