2 Killed, 1 In Critical Condition After Getting Hit By Alleged Distracted Driver

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) - Two people have died and another is in critical condition after getting hit by a pickup truck while walking along a road in Thornton.

Matt Barnes with Thornton police said that around 12:15 p.m. Saturday a driver of a 1998 Toyota pickup truck may have been distracted by a cellphone and veered of the road, hitting three people.

The incident happened in the 3500 block of 168th Avenue.

Two adult men died at the scene and a teenager was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Barnes said the pedestrians were hit from behind.

The driver of the pickup, identified as Michael James Grennan, 33, of Loveland, stayed at the scene. He's being investigated for charges of careless driving resulting in death. Police said speed wasn't a factor and don't believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The names of the victims haven't been released.
