Evans Officer, Suspect Shot During Medical Call
EVANS, Colo. (CBS4/AP) - An Evans police officer and a suspect are hospitalized with gunshot wounds following a shooting during a medical call.
Evans Det. Michael Yates says officers and an ambulance were called to a home at about 12:57 p.m. Friday. Shortly after their arrival, an unidentified man opened fire on officers, striking Officer Peter Bratton. Police say their officers returned fire.
Bratton's injuries are not life-threatening. He was shot in the upper back and his condition is stable. The suspect was also hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his head.
A woman in the home was also transported to the hospital for injuries. Her injuries do not appear to be related to the shooting.
Bratton is a three-and-a-half-year veteran of the Evans Police Department.
Evans investigators are working with the Weld County Sheriff's Office and the Greeley Police Department.
