Baby Presumed Dead In Commerce City Case, Mother Arrested
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Commerce City have arrested a 22-year-old woman after the presumed death of her baby.
The 7-month-old child was originally reported missing Thursday afternoon from the 5600 block of Olive Street. On Friday just before noon authorities said the baby was "presumed to be deceased" but didn't release further details. The infant's mother, Sharrieckia Page, was arrested.
Page is being held at the Adams County Detention Facility on charges of child abuse resulting in death on $100,000 bond.
On her Facebook page, Page wrote, "I am a loving, caring mother of three trying to get my life back on track."
Neighbors were surprised at the police activity surrounding the apartment and a nearby dumpster. Police removed a baby's bassinet along with large boxes of evidence from inside the apartment that neighbors identified as where Page lived with her three children.
"We just saw the children, maybe last week sometime. Everything seemed fine. The kids were jolly, laughing, they spoke. I don't know. It didn't seem there was any problem at all."
Jones said Page lives in the apartment with her three children. Earlier in the week he heard fighting coming from the apartment between a man and a woman and doors slamming.
On Thursday, police said they received a call that the 7-month-old was missing. When they arrived, "There were just some items that appeared to be suspicious. So we continued to investigate it overnight," said Commerce City Police Lt. Dennis Moon.
That investigation included a search of two trash bins near the apartment. Officers won't elaborate what they found, if anything, in those bins.
Neighbors told CBS4 they saw police carry out a black bag from one of the dumpsters.
"To come home and see this right after I moved in, it just, you know, it's upsetting," said neighbor Samira Elsenussi.
"It scares you a lot because I don't know how anything could be that bad when you have kids. Just do what you're supposed to do," said Jones.
Court documents have also been sealed as part of the investigation.
Police said Page has two other children and that those children are both safe. They also said the mother is cooperating with officers in the investigation.
Page is scheduled to appear in court on April 2.
