2 Dead, 3 Critical After Crash On I-70 Near Frisco

FRISCO, Colo. (CBS4) - Two women have died after a crash on Interstate 70 near Frisco Monday morning.

The Colorado State Patrol said two vehicles were headed eastbound on I-70 just east of the 201 Frisco exit. A red Toyota Corolla swerved into the left lane, where a silver SUV was traveling. The SUV swerved, over-corrected, and went through the median and ended up on the north side of westbound I-70.

Three people were ejected from the SUV in the median, including a baby. One of those people, identified as Renee Nevares of Commerce City, died. Two other people were still in the SUV. The fire department used the Jaws of Life to take the roof off. A woman inside the car, identified as Dolores Nevares, died.

"(It) cut off the silver SUV and it ran off the left side of the road, briefly came back and over-corrected and came across the median," Trooper Markus Winter said.

Gabriel Navares Jr., 17, his father, and the baby were taken to the hospital and are listed in critical condition.

The license plate of the SUV is registered to an address in the Denver metro area, but Winter wasn't sure if they still resided there. Winter said from all the luggage and other items in the median, it seemed like they were traveling home.

The driver of the Corolla fled the scene. Winter said the Corolla will not have damage because the real cause of the crash was the over-correction, but the driver of the Corolla could still face charges.

"I'm not sure what the likelihood is tracking them down," Winter said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Colorado State Patrol.
