8 Of 9 Barbers On Strike At Buckley Air Force Base

DENVER (AP)- Eight barbers at an Air Force base outside Denver say their private employer wants them to take a haircut on their paychecks, so they're on strike.

The barbers set up a picket line Thursday outside Buckley Air Force Base. They say Gino Morena Enterprises wants to shave their commissions even though the company is profitable.

The San Francisco-based company didn't immediately return a phone call.

The barber shop is still open. Mark Belkin of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 says one barber stayed on the job and managers are also giving haircuts.

Belkin says the barbers earn between $12,000 and $32,000 a year, depending on whether they work full- or part-time.

Buckley has only one barber shop. Workers at a separate beauty shop aren't involved in the strike.
