Gessler Steps Up Efforts To Prevent Non-Citizens From Voting
DENVER (CBS4) - Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler is stepping up his efforts to prevent non-American citizens from voting.
Gessler has asked the Department of Homeland Security to give his office the citizenship status of thousands of registered voters.
The Denver Post reports that 4,500 people provided a non-citizen document when they applied for a driver's license and then registered to vote.
Gessler says he's trying to enforce voting laws.
Critics say the Republican secretary is trying to stop potentially Democratic voters from going to the polls during this election year.
