Wind Makes It Tough To Fight House Fire In Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A fire gutted a home outside Ken Caryl Ranch on Monday.

Firefighters were still on the scene in the evening cleaning up hotspots. Wind made it tough for firefighters to fight the fire.

The home sits off South Carr Street in Jefferson County.

A woman who lives in the home was able to safely escape, but two cats were missing.

The house is a total loss. Firefighters said the fire doesn't appear suspicious. The owners have lived in the home for 25 years. The owners' daughter, Robin Denbeste, was cleaning the house when she said she saw flames.

"I just got done vacuuming and I turned around and saw smoke and ran upstairs and the whole deck in the back of the house was on fire," Denbeste said. "So I called 911 and they told me to get out of the house and I ran out and the propane tank blew up."

"Our firefighters had a tremendous struggle to fight this fire because of those winds," Michelle French with West Metro Fire and Rescue said.

"How sad. What are my parents are going to do? They lost everything," Denbeste said.

The Red Cross is helping the family.

The fire didn't spread to other homes.
