Immigrant Rights Activists Rally Against Abuse Of Program To Find Criminals
DENVER (CBS4)- A group advocating for the rights of immigrants rallied on Friday against what it calls abuse of a program to find criminals.
Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, are going through the Aurora Detention Center to make sure inmates are in the country legally.
Protesters claim the agents are going too far.
"No where in the country have we seen ICE take this unprecedented step of going and reaching into a community and collecting information this way," said coloradoimmigrant.org spokeswoman Julie Gonzales.
ICE said they are trying to make communities safer by deporting fugitives and previously deported and violent criminals from the U.S. The operation ends Wednesday.
