Brighton Officer Justified In Fatal Shooting

BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a police officer was justified when he shot and killed an armed man after a vehicle chase near Brighton.

District Attorney Don Quick said Friday an independent team of detectives determined that Brighton Police Sgt. Doug Imfeld was justified in the Jan. 7 shooting death of 36-year-old Shad Lane Pemberton of Brighton.

Authorities say Pemberton fled from police following a disturbance at a convenience store and was shot after refusing to obey orders to drop his handgun, which turned out to be a pellet gun. Pemberton died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Toxicology reports indicate he had alcohol and cocaine in his system when he was killed.

say what you will about this man. you do not know him. we do. this was a good man who had a really bad day and made a fatal mistake. what you dont get out of this story is that he has a family, who he loved. he had children that he charished. this same family hasn’t heard a word about this investigation. they have been fighting for 2 months for answers. instead of that, the PD leaked the story to the media, and the heartless media published the story. you all have people that you love. imagine if a loved one died in some tragic and inexlplicable incident. all you want is answers….and instead of the police department discolsing their findings to you directly, they release it to the media. that is no way to handle this. we are talking about a human life. no matter how you judge him, the media and the police department could have been more respectfull to the family.
