Fallen Deputy Brownlee Honored

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)- Law enforcement joined the family of fallen deputy Sam Brownlee to honor him on Thursday.

They gathered for a groundbreaking in Bittersweet Park in Greeley to build a memorial for the Weld County Sheriff's Deputy. Brownlee died in Nov. 2010 after wrestling with a suspect.

The Weld Co. Sheriff remembered Brownlee's sacrifice as well as others. He said this memorial will give everyone a place to honor him.

You people often say that we will never forget the fallen officers and the sacrifices they made. The days pass and life gets busy. Another crisis erupts. Something else grabs our attention. And then all of a sudden we stop and we realize we haven't thought of our fallen commerades, fallen officers, our fallen friends or fallen neighbors," said Weld Co. Sheriff John Cooke.

The Weld County Fallen Officer Memorial will honor all the officers who have given their lives in service. The memorial is expected to cost about $250,000.
