Man Arrested After Crash Into Denver Police Car, Injuring Officer

DENVER (CBS4) - A Denver police officer has been hospitalized after getting pinned between a squad car and another vehicle during a traffic stop early Monday morning.

Sonny Jackson with Denver police said the incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. at 400 West Colfax Avenue.

"During the stop a pickup truck ran into one of the police vehicles involved in the traffic stop. The impact of the crash pushed the police vehicle into Officer Simon, pinning her between the stopped vehicle and the police vehicle," Jackson said in a statement.

Jackson said Simon landed in front of the stopped vehicle. She was transported to Denver Health Medical Center and is listed in serious condition with injuries to her mid-to-lower body. No one was hurt in the car that had been pulled over.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Nicholas Herrera,22,  was arrested at the scene. He's being held for investigation of vehicular assault, failure to yield the right away of emergency vehicle, no proof of insurance, DUI, DUI per se, and careless driving.

Simon is a seven-year veteran assigned to the Patrol Division.
