Adams County Deputies Shoot, Kill Man During Traffic Stop

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A man is dead after Adams County deputies in the northeast Denver area shot and killed him while he was in the back seat of a vehicle.

The shooting took place during a traffic stop at about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. It happened near the intersection of 63rd and Federal Boulevard.

Authorities said when the deputies pulled over the car there were three men and one woman inside. The deputies discovered one of the men had an outstanding warrant and took him outside the car to talk to him. Moments later one of the deputies allegedly spotted a gun in the car and yelled "Gun! Gun!, Floorboard!" to the other officers.

At that point, a deputy saw one of the men who was still in the car "lunge towards the rear floorboard of the vehicle," according to a news release. He then began firing at that person.

That person was taken to the hospital and died there afterwards from the gunshot wound or wounds.

No one else was injured in the incident.

Police said after searching the car they found a gun on the floor in the back seat.
