Tow Truck Drivers Gather After Woman Convicted In Dragging Case

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A Colorado Springs jury turned in a guilty verdict for the woman who killed tow truck driver Allen Rose.

The jury found Detra Farries guilty of manslaughter, vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. Rose was getting ready to tow Farries' SUV when she jumped in and drove off.

Tow truck drivers gathered after the verdict was handed down. Many of the drivers came in their trucks with their light flashing. The drivers came out to share stories about Rose and about the dangers of the job.

"When (the verdict) finally came back it was a big relief," tow truck driver Kenneth Halsey said.

"Just remembering Allen Rose and the tragic way he had to go," tow truck driver Martin Doremus said. "It's something that none of us would ever had expected."

Some of the drivers who showed up for the memorial never even met Rose, but say the job connects them all.

"There's a big camaraderie for sure. It's the same that goes for the fire department or law enforcement," Doremus said.

"I'm glad that everybody is showing their support and that we can now come together as a family to do this for one of our fallen friends," Halsey said.

Farries' trial lasted almost a month and it took 1 1/2 days for the jury to reach a verdict.

Rose's friends say that justice has been served and now they can rest easy and it helps Rose's family move on.

Farries has been out of jail out on bond. She's expected to be sentenced sometime in March.
