February 2012 Could Go Down As Denver's Snowiest

Written by Forecaster Ed GreeneDENVER (CBS4) - Thursday's snow in the Denver metro area added to what has been a snowy February -- one of the snowiest yet.

The snowiest Februaries on record BEFORE THE START OF THIS MONTH were as follows:

1912 - 22.1
1942 - 19.5
1909 - 18.3
1931 - 18
1959 - 17.5

As of Friday, 2012 is showing a total of 20.2 inches of snow for Denver (1.9 inches fell on Thursday officially in Denver). That makes it the No. 2 snowiest February on record.

But more snow is possible before March 1 (next Thursday) and we could break the all-time February record!

Snow amounts from this latest storm system that dropped snow on Denver on Thursday varied widely: Fort Collins: just a half inch; Loveland: 1.1″; Westminster: 2″; Lakewood: 6″; Littleton: 9.3″; Castle Rock: 9.5″; and Highlands Ranch: 11″.
